After three-plus years of (irregular) posting there as a "guest liberal", I finally got banned for posting the following comment:
Anyone who does not believe in evolution is either very ignorant, completely blinded by a priori ideology/religious belief, or lying for the purpose of pandering to the first two groups. The basic scientific questions about the age of the Earth and human origins were answered long ago and the answers are not in any danger of being overturned -- certainly not in favor of anything resembling the Genesis account.
Well, the banning is long overdue, but certainly not for this post, which is accurate and, ironically, substantially in agreement with the Rich Lowry article that was under discussion. Anyone who hasn't read that article should check it out -- it really highlights one of the deep rifts in the Republican party.
Being banned for posting the plain and simple truth is something of a badge of honor in my book, so this is a public thank-you-and-goodbye to the administrators of Redstate.com.
Update: The Redstate thread has really heated up. A few folks are even on my side:
Scientific theory is based on logic and reason. Fundamentalist Religious theory is based purely on faith and what the preacher says.
But now we want to elect a man who is denies fact and reason on basic scientifc principles? As a matter of faith, you can believe what you want. As a matter of public policy, I cannot vote for a young Earth Creationist.
Of course you do realize that god as given us the gift of science and the ability to learn about the world around us... which made the possibility of Genesis being a literal account of the creation of the world and life a complete impossibility?
No sign of further bannings. I guess Moe is spent for the day.
Then we had this gem, which I just have to quote here:
I have been studying evolution for years, and I can confidently tell you that it takes much more faith to believe in evolution than it does in the truth of the Bible.
I would ask those who are so quick to condemn anyone who believes in a young earth and the six day creation to study the actual science which exists, and draw your conclusions from the evidence, not what has been presented as truth for the last 150 years since Darwin and Gore.
Darwin and Gore? As much as I like Al Gore, I think he'd be the first to admit that he didn't coauthor Origin of Species.
