From start to finish, how could Bin Laden have hoped for an American President who would be of greater assistance to his cause? George Bush’s lust for power was sated when he used his family name and fortune to propel himself to the presidency. Bin Laden quickly recognized the tendency towards sloth that this new president had exhibited throughout his life. His minions wasted little time in preying upon the relaxed vigilance characterized by the new administration. It is well documented that while Bush was sleeping behind the wheel of his ranch pickup in Crawford, Texas, plans for the terrorist attacks of 9/11 were being finalized. The elaborate plan was carried out with deadly precision due to the utter failure of the president to protect the citizens he was sworn to protect.
But 9/11 was only the beginning of Bin Laden taking advantage of Bush’s reign. In Bush, Bin Laden had a prideful foil to maximize his impact. Bin Laden must have realized that Bush, known for his childlike petulance, would respond in a fashion that would further bring America to her knees. Bin Laden’s terror, through twisted rationale, released Bush’s wrath towards Saddam Hussein, whom, we recall, attempted to assassinate the boy king’s father. It was not just petulance and wrath, however, that led the American president into a misguided and tragic war with Iraq, but there was a truly gluttonous and unbridled greed ingrained in the president to enrich himself and his elite fraternity of oil barons. Seeing Bush as Bin Laden’s foil, it is worth noting that the easily distracted president’s folly in Iraq helped Bin Laden very personally by allowing him to escape certain capture if not death.
The ability of this president to serve Bin Laden did not stop with the Iraq War. While this war was filling the pockets of those closest to the president, it was bankrupting the American Treasury and it was alienating the United States from the rest of the world. The same United States that was once a beacon of hope around the planet was set on a torturous path of self-destruction. If Bin Laden did not forecast it, he must have been delighted to find that the intellectually indolent president would resort to fear as his way of maintaining power over his citizenry. The result has been the precipitous erosion of the remarkable constitution that had for over two centuries helped to guide a great nation in the best and worst of times.
I have wondered if a man born with a silver spoon so deeply embedded in his mouth, a man so overly-protected and self-delusional could come to envy another man. After observing the effort put forth by the Bushies to circumventing our constitution, I have come to the conclusion that Bush must envy the likes of Bin Laden for not having to give even the slightest appearance of following a set of laws.
How could it be that a self-proclaimed "Christian" could have strayed so far from the teachings of Jesus Christ? Our president, from all indications, is surely deceitful and arrogant and apparently murderous, unlawful, and highly immoral. Perhaps the lasting link between Bush and Bin Laden, one that may even unite them in the hereafter, is the seven deadly sins that they seem so hell-bent on committing.
