OK, I know this kind of insignificant tidbit isn't necessarily worthy of a diary, but it's so illustrative of how Hillary's surrogate is twisting himself into a pretzel to make the anti-Obama argument that it's beyond funny.
From the AP article Clinton '92 vs. Obama '08
Bill Clinton says Sen. Barack Obama is a callow, highly ambitious political prodigy who is asking voters to "roll the dice" and elect him president.
He should know — that's a fair description of Clinton when he sought the presidency in 1992.
Ouch! More irony after the fold...
In chastizing Obama for not "waiting his turn", on "The Charlie Rose Show", Clinton casts Obama as a political prodigy, suggesting that he (Clinton) could have run in 1988 instead of waiting until 1992, but decided he needed more seasoning.
Art English, political science professor at the University of Arkansas, characterized Clinton as being "a little disingenuous". The article suggests the delay was caused not by any lack of political readiness to pursue the office, but rather the bimbo-alert scandals that Clinton was famous for that had to be discredited before he could make a legitimate run for President.
The article notes how similar Obama and Clinton's situation were:
As a first-time presidential candidate, Clinton cast himself as an "agent of change" in troubled times, and faced criticism from Republicans about his youth and inexperience.
Obama finds himself in the same boat, with Clinton manning the torpedoes.
Barack Obama is effectively stealing a page from Bill Clinton's playbook. As the senator from Illinois points out:
"He [Clinton] said at the time his challenge was to define experience as something more than service in Washington or a state capital. He needed voters to take the full measure of his life, his judgment and his style, because if the race turns into a battle of resumes, he loses."
The icing on the cake? Obama, with a smile, delivers this doozy of a quote from someone he highly regards:
"The same old experience is irrelevant. You can have the right kind of experience or the wrong kind of experience. And mine is rooted in the real lives of real people, and it will bring real results if we have the courage to change."
The source of that wisdom? None other than Bill Clinton, himself. Checkmate.
