At some point it became clear that it was better to take the risk of having a R in the seat over having Lieberman in the Senate selling out the Democrats. Lieberman was doing more to help the right than the progressives. He was doing more to help himself than anyone else.
Have we reached that point with Reid? Here is a Senate "leader" who has honored Lieberman's seniority. Here is a "leader" who honors the most egregious holds from the most extreme right wing Senators in the opposition, and ignores Dodd's honorable Constitutional hold.
Reid has long been a Lieberman supporter. Remember this? Reid was a big support of the least Democratic of Dem Senators: http://www.time.com/...
"Lieberman, of course, also has powerful backers. Reid, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have all spoken or written letters encouraging Democrats to back him."
I offer three reasons for citizens of Nevada to put up a real Dem against Harry Reid in
- Harry Reid does not support the Rule of Law.
Do you recall how Lieberman posted "support" in the name of Harry Reid on blogs? :
A Hartford lawyer says the FBI has agreed to investigate postings promoting Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman's re-election on a popular Connecticut-based Internet "blog" in the names of Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill. from:
http://www.journalinquirer.com/...
Harry Reid does not support the rule of law for the Village. He is more interested in making sure no "serious" people are hurt than in supporting the Constitution, or even his own party.
The time to start on a primary challenge to Sen Reid is now. He is a powerful friend on industry. How much cash do you think the telcos are going to put into the campaign of the man who tried to roll the Constitution and his constituents just to jump to the telco-specific height?
Who were the Senate leaders that urged Lamont to stand down and not campaign during those critical moments after the primary? Was Reid not one of those?
- Harry Reid does not support the Democratic Party
Reid allowed the Anti-MoveOn vote to the floor.
Reid has refused to honor Dodd's hold in order to do Bush's dirty work. If Bush wants to veto FISA because there is no telco immunity, let him do it. Let Bush place putting protecting criminals over protecting American. We may be unable to prevent Bush from putting the Constitution through the shredder, but we don't have to help him do it!
Reid opposes safe and legal abortion.
Reid "oopsed" Mukasey, but he absolutely nothing to oppose him.
Reid opposes marraige equity.
- We can do better
We need a progressive from Nevada.
"What a difference a year makes in Nevada politics!" says the http://www.nvdems.com/ Nevada Democratic site. Only the elections seem to have made no difference to Harry Reid. He still acts like he as over-run and over-powered. The sixty vote rule is honored, while Republican holds are treated as sacred.
Reid is starting to plan his re-election now:
According to http://www.politico.com/...
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, struggling to sustain his popularity back home amid his rise in national prominence, will run for reelection again in 2010 and plans to remain the top Senate Democrat until then, if not longer, according to advisers briefed on his new political plan.
Even after winning with 61% he is pandering, bowing, licking, and begging for Bush. Note this as well, from the same article above:
Only 32 percent of Nevadans now approve of the job he’s doing,
We need a true progressive to run for the Senate in NV. Dems now outnumber R's in Nevada.
Sen. Reid has always wanted to be a Man Like Joe. Let us endeavor to make him one.
