I have reached the point that I am almost completely disgusted with the lack of backbone or courage of our national elected officials.
Today after reading an email I received from Mr. Conyers relating to the FISA bill before the congress I have decided that it is time that they understand that just talking tough is not enough. We have now had more than a year of the so called tough talk and no productive action to bring any part of the wrongs to account. Every day that passes this administration compounds the damage they have already done to our nations security and values and it is time for those charged with protecting our nation to do their job and start truly protecting it politics be damned.
It is no longer acceptable to hide behind all the excuses put forth for not taking concrete actions to stop the unlawful acts and contempt for our constitution from this administration.
We do have an impeachment option built into out system for dealing with those who would seek to destroy our nation and it's standing from within.
No one has the right to place impeachment off the table in the face of the acts of the current administration.
Today I sent the Honorable Mr. Conyers the following letter which is copied in full below the fold.
Copy of my email to the Honorable John Conyers.
Mr. Conyers for many years I have admired you as one of the best representatives that we have in Washington. I am sad today and have been for a while now because of what I see as failure of our Democratic party to really stand up for this nation and it's people when the need is so great.
I understand that we are working with a less than perfect system and that we need a few more seats to give us true ability to do many things the Democratic Party stands for, but that in no way excuses allowing this administration to get away with shredding our constitution and the rights of the citizens of this nation.
That does not excuse allowing this President to destroy the creditability and the standing of our nation in the world today.
There is an avenue for impeaching a President or anyone else in the Administration who sets about breaking the laws and ignoring the constitution of this country. There is an impeachment process for removing anyone from office who deliberately takes this nation into war on false reason. This president has done just that and is trying his best to do it again in regards to Iran.
In the run up to the 2006 elections we kept hearing that we could do nothing about this runaway administration because we did not have the majority and did not control the investigative power. Now it appears that we can not do anything about this administration because for political reasons our Democratic leaders and party has decided that it unwise politically to hold impeachment hearings, especially in an election season.
I submit to you and all the rest of our elected Democrats in Washington that regardless of any conceived backlash that you all are afraid of, removing, and holding them responsible in whatever way possible under our governmental legal process, this President and those who have aided him in ignoring the constitution and breaking the laws of our nation is the right and honorable thing to do.
I am confused today because I am left to wonder where have all the great men and women who profess to be serving our nation gone and why have we all of a sudden a great lack of the courage to protect our nation from the greatest threat to it. That threat is the destruction of our core beliefs and the rule of law that our great nation was built upon.
I had so much hope that at the very hint of such a threat, we had enough truly honorable representatives within our Democratic leadership who would rise to the cause of protecting this nation and it's constitution from those who would seek to destroy it.
I am left after most of my 69 years believing that our Democratic party was the party who would truly stand up for the nation and it's citizens, wondering why I now find a sad truth that our party is weak when it comes to really defending this nation.
All the terrorist in the world does not matter one bit if we in our fear or lack of true national courage in the face of the greatest national threat just mouth tough words at a corrupt administration while actually doing attempting nothing to actually to stop the raping of our nation and our constitution on which it stands.
It does not matter if it takes until long after this bunch are out of our White House, holding those responsible for all the damage done to this nation by our own so called leaders must be the top priority unless we want to concede that our laws and the constitution are in fact just that damn piece of paper that our President called it.
Please rethink your position and do all within your power to move our congress toward doing the right thing and right the wrongs that we have and still are witnessing.
Please restore this Democrats faith in our party and show us that someone in elected office still loves and cares about our nation and it is not all just politics.
A concerned Democratic voter.
