I am a 58-year old female. I resist Hillary. You asked tonight, why?
Let me tell you.
And this isn't easy. It has been my desperate wish for years to elect a female president. I wept when Walter Mondale selected Geraldine Ferraro as his VP. May have been the sweet vermouth, but I know it was also the huge sense of pride I felt.
I had always been the "first female" in my career. And I knew that it carried a huge responsibility. I knew that the younger women who followed me would be affected by my actions.
So why am I having so much trouble with Hillary? Maybe it's because I don't feel as though she really really, feels that sense of responsibility. She is playing the political game because it's just that - a game. She wants to win. Good on you, Hillary. But I feel as though you've forgotten that you have a special responsibility.
I, as a woman of a certain age, want you to be straight - clear - forthright - and a leader. Instead, I feel as though you're reading the tea leaves and listening to "advisors" and trying to be all things to all people.
Tweetie - you asked the question. Why are white women of a certain age not signing on to Hillary?
She isn't hitting me on the issues that are important to me. The war is important to me. It has to end. NOW. And she has to stop trying to look tough by voting for bills in an effort to look like a "tough guy" as opposed to voting against those bills because they're STUPID!!! She has to stop her campaign staff from attacking her opponents with stupid kindergarten stories. She has to stand tall. She has to say - here's what I truly believe in. Don't vote for me if you don't agree. She has to take a stand on the crimes of this administration. Now.
I always told the young women who worked for me - be sure that you are true to yourselves. Make sure you know the hill you're ready to die on. Because once you know that - you know the morals that make up your being. And once you know that, you don't have to worry about anything. You're golden. You can stand tall and look anyone in the eye.
I really want to support a woman. I just don't think Hillary is that woman. And it kills me.
Please don't flame me. I don't think you can change my mind. That being said - if she's our candidate - 150% of my effort will go to making her our next President. It will just be harder to give that 150%.
Thanks for listening.
