So now I am having a debate with my resident office dittohead about the statements of James G Watt, Reagan's Secretary of the Interior. It seems he's all bent out of shape over something Bill Moyers said in a recent speech.
It seems the folks at Powerline have discovered that Moyers included a quote that was attributed to Watt in an article in Grist magazine. The article was examining the role of apocolyptic Christian fundamentalists in the Bush environmental policy, and mentioned that Watt held similar views back in the '80s. His quote, made during a congressional hearing, was along the lines of "after the last tree is felled, Christ will come back".
The quote was debunked as a tongue in cheek rebuff to the line of questioning, but I know that Watt expressed similar views during his tenure in the Reagan white house. Can anyone help me come up with a direct quote from Watt where he declares that we don't need to preserve the environment because Christ is returning soon?
