This is a follow up on my diary about the abrupt firing of 6 US attorneys.
While the Scooter Libby Trial ends with a whimper, I'd like to provide more data on the abrupt firing of 6 US attorneys by US AG Alberto Gonzalez.
This is getting more tangled up in some high profile indictments and is a REAL can of worms for the Bush Administration. As opposed to the lounge act of the Scooter Libby Trial.
You might remember the curious and very abrupt firing of 6 US attorneys across the US and their replacement with Bush Stooges. There was a reason for Gonzalez to fire those 6 attorneys but it wasn't something he wanted to put on paper.
Quote from McClatchy Newspapers online article:
Among those dismissed were Carol Lam of San Diego, whose office won a bribery conviction against then-Rep. Randolph "Duke" Cunningham, R-Calif. The Cunningham case is ongoing.
Please remember the "ongoing" part for the rest of this tale.
You all remember "Dusty" Foggo, Bush's spy and No. 3 man in the CIA? Foggo liked to attend "parties" thrown by his friend (government contractor) Brent Wilkes at the Watergate in Washington, DC.
From the New York Daily News:
A CIA spokeswoman said Foggo went to the lavish weekly hospitality-suite parties at the Watergate and Westin Grand hotels but "just for poker."
(Wilkes' parties also included hookers, booze, food and cigars.
Ok back to the abrupt firing of 6 US attorneys in December of 2006.
Headline from DownWithTyranny blog:
FLASH: FOGGO AND WILKES INDICTMENTS ABOUT TO COME DOWN IN SAN DIEGO DESPITE BUSH REGIME'S EFFORTS TO DERAIL INVESTIGATION
Actually Foggo and Wilkes have been indicted by none other than now fired Carol Lam, San Diego US Attorney.
Foggo & Wilkes were indicted by Lam's office. And that seems to be the real reason Lam was fired. It seems Gonzalez wanted to derail that investigation and or indictment because it involves California Republicans well-connected with George Bush and his regime.
It gets very circular and complicated but even though Foggo & Wilkes have been indicted, it's dicey if they will go to trial. After all, there will be a new sympathetic to the Bush Administration (as in stooge), US attorney replacing Carol Lam.
To me this is the real juicy story. It's not just the story of a US Attorney fired without due cause or due process. You also have sex, cigars, gambling and influence for sale. And you have Bush Administration sweetheart contractor Brent Wilkes paying for a weekly "card game" with hookers, food, cigars and booze! You have Dusty Foggo and 4 Bush buddy California politicians in the mix to add to all of this.
This isn't Kansas any more Dorothy. ;)
