We've been hearing a lot in the news lately about food contamination. After the spinach scareand the Taco Bell e coli outbreak, it's apparent that our food isn't as safe as it should be. Just this week, peanut butter from one processing plant was found to be contaminated with salmonella. And today, certain jars of baby food were recalled because they may contain botulism.
This got me thinking... didn't the Bush Administration cut the FDA food and drug safety budget last year. I am not certain that the prevalence of food poisoning has actually increased. The reporting and tracking of outbreaks has become more sophisticated over the last few decades. It's also possible that this is another "Summer of the Shark" and the threat has been overblown by the media. Regardless, food safety should be a higher priority.
