One of the biggest rights we, as citizens of the United States of America, have is to assemble. Now, many have done this. We've had marches, we've had sit-ins. We've assembled. Just as with our rights to vote and speak, we've created a rumble in the country. What if, instead of creating a rumble, instead we created silence, a profound silence?
We've all heard metaphors such as "a picture is worth a thousand words" and "silence is golden," but have you ever stopped and think what can actually be done with that gold?
What I propose is simple. One day, everyone that doesn't support what's going on does nothing.
Now, this seems like a simple plan. Too simple. So simple it seems rediculous. If you go by the numbers, and over 60% of those polled don't want the escelation to happen, why don't we do something about it? What damage would it do to this country if for one day, everyone that is in favor of a change just didn't show up for work, called in sick, took a vacation, just didn't do anything?
We can march hundreds of thousands in cities across the country for immigration, we can march thousands in Washington, can we have those same numbers just do nothing?
"There are times when silence has the loudest voice" -Leroy Brownlow
"Silence is the most powerful scream." -Paul Simon
"Silence is a source of great strength" -Lao Tzu
I propose March 21 be our day of silent resistance. The start of spring, renewal of life in nature, and our renewal to peace, not war for profit.
