Yesterday I was vilified when I posted a diary arguing that the Democratic Party should be careful when excoriating Arbusto w/respect to eavesdropping.
I argued that the Democratic Party had achieved parity with the Repugs insofar as terrorism went, and that we were jeopardizing this by criticizing the illegal wiretapping. Finally, I suggested that President Warner (or any other Democrat) could leverage this "precedent" by eavesdropping on WingNut callers to HateRadio, arguing that these unbalanced Americans represent a national security risk.
Some of you asked for numbers to support my argument.

Early last November, in the ABC News poll, Democrats had achieved parity with the Repugs on which party can best handle the war against terrorism.
The ABC News poll that came out today (same methodology as Nov. poll) gives the Repugs a 5% lead.
The Bloomberg/LATimes poll that was released a couple of days ago gives Arbusto a 13% point lead over Democrats when Americans were asked, "Who do you trust to do a better job protecting the nation against Terrorism, Arbusto, or the Democrats in Congress."
We are so close to achieving greatness this November. I can only hope and pray that in our quest to safeguard all the civil rights of all Americans, we don't overreach and give the GOP another election, thereby enabling them to continue to suppress ALL our civil rights.
