Did those governors expect anything else? Bush just finished speaking with a roomful of anxious governors at the National Governors Association Meeting. Governors have been pleading with the federal government for more dollars for the State Children's Health Insurance Program. The uninsured are draining state coffers and scramble desperately for services. And in many places, essential services are being cut.
The crisis is real and huge in scope:
At stake is coverage for 6 million people, overwhelmingly children, as well as the hopes of many governors in tackling the larger challenge of the uninsured. All governors rely on the State Children's Health Insurance Program, intended to aid uninsured working families.
Bush, welcoming the governors after they met privately with several administration officials, did not offer any comments about the children's health program, talking rather about his larger proposals.
Even Republicans like Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue, said the children's health insurance program is a bipartisan issue. Seven out of ten governors who want action are in the GOP! This is not an issue about liberal versus conservative anymore. We are talking about children's lives. Bush, who talks about the "culture of life" is nothing but a hypocrite. He only cares about fertilized eggs and tissue cells. Tissue cells don't get fevers, broken legs or cancer. They don't require trips to the ER or vaccinations so they can go to school. They don't drain a family's savings or require coffins if the worst should happen.
Bush's budget bankrupts the health program to pay for his wars, bribes to warlords and chiefs, pay-offs to Cheney's war profiteers, more bombs, more expensive military machinary and so on. Now, America inches towards war with Iran! The shortfall over the next 5 yrs is 10-15 billion which is outragious considering how much money is being spent in Iraq.
Bush finds a way to pay for war, but not for children's health in America.
He is a criminal. There is no excuse. None at all. He is a failure not only as President but as a human being.
