From Young People For Blog:
While media outlets such as NY Times, CNN and Washington Post are claiming that Republicans used tactical parliamentary measures yesterday to prevent a debate in the Senate on the recently proposed troop escalation in Iraq. I don’t buy it.
Yes, technically the Republicans did vote to prevent debate on the war. And, Americans should take note and realize this means the 47 Republican Senators who voted against debating a resolution denouncing troop escalation, all fully support the escalation. Further, this vote proves at the end of the day that they also support this ill conceived, mismanaged and morally offensive war that is funded by your paycheck.

But, as much as I want to blame Republicans for this mess (because ultimately they are to blame) it's time to get over the politics. Democrats now control congress and they must do something about this catastrophic war that is taking American lives and draining taxpayer dollars.
I don't believe the headlines coming from today's newspapers because I know Harry Reid. Having followed his career, I know he is a strategist and a master parliamentarian. He proved that in 2005 when he essentially shut down the Senate and forced it into a closed door session to demand answers for the war. In 2005, he was in the minority party.
Again, I am not a parliamentarian, but Harry Reid is. Now that he and the Democrats are in the majority they can and must force Republicans into a debate on the war. That's why they were elected. Although the headlines talking about Republicans blocking debate look good from a Democratic political standpoint, playing politics with this issue is disgusting, costly, and morally offensive.
