Following are the comments from the original posting of Issue 2 of Turning Florida Blue.
• Thanks to everyone (4+ / 0-)
who contributed to this issue and to those who are already working on Issue 3.
Also, since I mentioned the Koufax Awards I need to add that GatorDem was nominated for Best Commenter.

Yep! don't exert much time and effort in Crenshaw's 4th district (Jacksonville)- solid Red with 2 military bases, 20 million defense contractors and local paper that's a dumbed down GOP mouthpiece!

• Do you live in Jacksonville? (1+ / 0-)
We want to be able to support candidates in all congressional districts. Even CD-1 in the panhandle. I heard that the Duval Dems were in something of a disarray. Are you associated at all with the DEC there?

• Crenshaw had a Dem opponent this year (1+ / 0-)
who I campaigned for, but the DEC nor the DNC recognized him or supported him. Well, of course "we want to support candidates in all congressional districts", but the DEC and DNC are MIA here!
My Dem rep, Corrine Brown, who shares Jacksonville with Crenshaw, votes progressive on most issues and didn't have an opponent.

• That's what we're trying to change (1+ / 0-)
Thru the efforts of the netroots we can get the FDP to become competitive everywhere in Florida.
Email me so we can discuss all of this more. Let me put you in touch with some other Jacksonville people. That's the first step, getting connected.

It is good to see some efforts out here trying to improve the effectiveness of the FL Democratic Party.

• You're welcome. (0 / 0)
I met with T Rex this morning. He runs the Florida Progressive Coalition site. They've set up a wiki for all the state house, state senate, and congressional districts which we will be filling in over the next two months.
Everything is slowly coming together.
Glad you could make it jiacinto. We look forward to whatever help or moral support you can provide. Let me know if you want to write something for the magazine.

• Mica Florida 7th? (0 / 0)
Not from Florida, although Ohio is a similiar state for these thoughts. What's the Volusia County area like politically?

portrayed Mica as a crybaby. That's the name we're going to stick him with.
Mica will be a tough opponent with his long incumbency, but all Republicans are going to be tarred with George Bush's incompetence and intransigence.
The main goal is to win the presidency. Part of the 50 state strategy is to take your message everywhere, even in Republican strongholds, in order to boost Democratic turnout.
By the time 2008 rolls around, if we've done our job here, even Mica's seat will turn out to be competitive.

• thank you for a great diary and an even (0+ / 0-)
greater idea! now we need one of these for each state in the union!
i've enjoyed reading of florida today and will return again to spend more time, more closely watching what is happening in a state critical to the way of the nation - for so goes florida (and ohio), so goes the nation!
i am curious what the tone is in "little cuba" and what the reaction politically will be to the residents as the changes in cuba unfold. the major reason for them supporting the republican party seems to surround their hatred of castro - not of issues pertaining to their own lives and welfare.
something for a future issue?
again, thanks for a wonderful effort and excellent idea!

South Florida will definitely be targeted over the next 2 years. Progressive America goes to school at UM and is very interested in this issue, as is kos himself.
Democrat Luis Garcia, retired Fire Chief of Miami Beach, won a state house seat from the area in 2006. The party sees him as the sign of change.
