"In nature there are neither rewards not punishments--there are consequences."
George, Dick, Alberto, Condi... and the rest of the Bush Administration,
We here at the DailyKos have watched with keen interest, but with horror and indignation, as you arrogated unto yourselves ever greater executive authority. Doing so, you sabotaged the fine machinery of checks and balances on power engineered by the founders of this nation. You shredded to tatters the Constitution you swore to uphold. You crossed your fingers as you signed any legislation that might place any limits on your ability to act with imperial power. You attempted to undermine and silence any who defy you.
You believe that you are not subject to the law, and are beyond accountability.
For a while it looked like that was, indeed, the case. But there's no escaping the laws of physics, and the more power you wield, the more of a reaction you elicit. It's inevitable and inexorable. Some see it as metaphysical justice, and call it "karma", but in any case it is a tangible implication of the use of force. The reaction may not be immediate. It may not be "equal and opposite". But it's coming at you, right now, like a freight train.
It's too late for you to learn this lesson, and it seems like you are impervious to facts that contradict your naked will to power... so now you'll just serve as a cautionary example for those who come after you.
It's very simple: all actions have consequences.
There's no escape. You can try, as you have, to cover your tracks. You can do everything possible to hide them... and try to hide that hiding, but the more power you wield, the larger your fingerprints are. You can wear gloves to conceal your fingerprints, but then you have those gloves as evidence. You can burn the gloves, and someone will notice the smoke.
You can fly prisoners to the most remote corner of the globe... but those airplanes will show up on someone's radar. You can hire 100 prosecuters to plague your political enemies, but we'll see it when you fire the ones who don't do your bidding. You can start a war based on manipulating our fears with lies, but eventually the lack of evidence will be exposed. It's inevitable.
So, even as you try to put the world under surveillance, believing you must monitor all we do and say, there are literally billions of us with eyes and ears and brains and tongues who cannot help but see fragments of the trail of evidence you leave in your wake. Many of us can, and will, be talking to each other... assembling the puzzle pieces. You tried to marginalize and slander us, but our numbers grew until you are now left naked, advancing the absurdity that the overwhelming majority of Americans are unAmerican.
The arrogant will overreach, and will undo themselves. We're watching it unfold yet again.
