So Gonzo has lost bipartisan support and is likely on his way out. But don't for a second think this is dems and repubs coming together for the greater good. They have very different reasons for seeking Gonzo's ouster.
Democrats (and most Americans) are appalled that the the AG would go on a political witch hunt, purging US Attorneys who either aggressively investigated Republications, or failed to aggressively investigate Democrats.
Republicans are appalled that the AG's political witch hunt, purging US Attorneys who either aggressively investigated Republications, or failed to aggressively investigate Democrats was handled so poorly.
Bush, of course is not happy that Gonzo botched the purge: "I'm frankly not happy about how the U.S. attorneys' firings were handled. What was mishandled was the explanation of the cases to the Congress."
Sununu thinks this is a managerial matter: "the Attorney General failed to exercise effective supervision in the recent dismissal of United States Attorneys"
Ensign just cares about the reputation of Nevada's fired US attorney. It was "completely mishandled by the United States attorney general. I'm calling on the president of the United States and the attorney general to restore Dan Bogden's reputation"
Republicans have gotten away with so much these past six years that it's a shock that the administration bungled this political hit job and deception so badly.
So the Democratic message is: "Let's investigate the lies and deceptions and get the AG's office back to serving the American People."
The Republican message is: "Let's dump Gonzo and get someone who can get the dirty work done right again!"
