New Mexico Republican Senator Pete Domenici's central involvement in the attorney purge scandal has seriously stained the once-popular politician -- increasing the odds that a Democrat will replace him in 2008.
DKos'ers in New Mexico can help raise the local profile of this scandal and improve Democratic prospects by attending town hall meetings that Senator Domenici's staff is planning to hold this Monday in Tularosa and Cloudcroft, New Mexico.
Tell Senator Domenici, fellow citizens and the press that New Mexicans don't condone Domenici's style of corrupt politics and demand a change in:
Tularosa, 9:30-11 AM, Monday, March 19
Cloudcroft, 1:30-3 PM, Monday, March 19
Details on the flip.
From the Alamogordo Daily News:
A staff member from Sen. Pete Domenici's office will be conducting office hours in Tularosa and Cloudcroft on Monday.
Constituent liaison Sharon DuBois, from Domenici's Las Cruces office, will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 609 Saint Francis Drive in Tularosa, in the courtroom. DuBois will then head to Cloudcroft and hold office hours from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the village board of trustees' chambers at 201 Burro Ave.
Leticia Garcia, from Domenici's Las Cruces office, said the senator holds office hours to offer his constituents help in personal matters.
"The office hours are held for the constituents if they are having problems with federal agencies, from immigration, IRS, social security or V.A. (veteran's affairs)," Garcia said.
Cloudcroft village manager Michael Nivison said he has heard from several people who might benefit from Domenici's office hours in Cloudcroft.
"This is a chance for people to be heard," Nivison said.
A news release issued Friday states in order for the senator's staff members to conduct an inquiry, constituents must bring copies of documents relevant to the issue they wish to see resolved.
The last 6 years have been an exercise in a Republican Congress giving Bush free rein in exchange for favors, and Domenici is their poster boy.
Domenici sought to influence the legal work of New Mexico's U.S. Attorney for political purposes, and when that attorney resisted the pressure, Bush and the Attorney General fired him.
Tell Senator Domenici that you condemn this unethical behavior, and demand that he resign or be replaced in 2008.
