Vice President Al Gore appeared before the Senate Environmental and Public Works Committee today. Barbara Boxer, Chairperson of the committee, made a wonderful opening statement welcoming him and stating the pressing need to address the global warming issues he has raised. Unfortunately, the RANK-ing member, James Inhofe also spoke.
The Republican position, (No, I strike that, because there were reasonable Republicans on the committee), the Inhofe position is one where his mind (and I use the term loosely) has been set in cement. His Luddite opinions fly in the face of all overwhelming reputable, peer-reviewed evidence from scientists all over the world.
Mr. Inhofe's belligerent opening statement left no doubt that the only reason he was there was to try to refute Mr. Gore's pronouncements, in spite of all the evidence supporting "An Inconvenient Truth." There is none so blind as he who will not see.
Mr. Inhofe's main point was the financial disaster it would bring, especially on the poor people, and he just would have no part of it.
Al's calm response showed the class that we have come to expect from the leader that he is and left no doubt as to who was the ass in that encounter.
Being from GA and having to apologize last week for my Rep. Lynn Westmoreland's shameful performance in the Valerie Plame Wilson hearing, I feel for the poor folks of Oklahoma.
