Now that we all know beyond a shadow of a doubt what is going on in our country what should be our next move? Do we rise up as a nation of free people and demand necks? Or is this perhaps to much like what is already going on?
Start boycotting republican owned businesses, walk to work, school or play instead of driving a fossil burner. Buy a electric car, install solar panels on your home and business along with wind power. Plant a garden, grow your own food and your neighbors. Home school your children. Feel free to practice your religion of choice, but don't let your church control your political beliefs. Build your dwelling out of green, sustainable, local materials. Base all your purchases on: do I really need this and what is the impact on the planet? Help those whom are less fortunate, especially those that are trounced by the bushies. Last but not least take a stand, be brave back up your talk, walk the walk.
What can I do? you might ask. Well for one thing if you have oil, gas or coal stocks, sell them and invest the money in alternative energy.
The Mellon Bank of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was one of the largest banks in the country when it financed an oil well in Spindletop Texas in 1900. The investment paid off in a big way for Andrew Mellon. The multi-millionaire banker, soon bought out Gulf Oil Corporation. In 1913 Henry Ford opened his auto assembly line, Gulf followed right after with the first drive through service station.
Ethanol fuel (corn whiskey) was well poised in those years to compete against gasoline because it worked better, was widely available and inexpensive compared with gasoline. Then along comes prohibition in 1919, lucky Mr Mellon. His appointment as Secretary of the Treasury under President Warren G. Harding (an obvious conflict of interest) involved repetitive scandals and economic collapse of the nation. He held onto his post for 20 years and four administrations. His formula for American recovery?
Liquidate labor, liquidate stocks, liquidate the farmer, liquidate real estate. People will work harder, live a more moral life. Values will be adjusted and enterprising people will pick up the wrecks from less competent people.
It worked for big oil back then and I am certain it still is. Just look at the current administration, they are the face of big oil, big bucks.
There is hope though if we will just try. Sell your oil interests, your Pharmaceutical stocks,as well as big agriculture ideals and any other interest related to petroleum. Reinvest in Green Power, Organic farming and sustainable technologies. Ask you elected officials to enact fair labor laws, fair trade laws and good environmental laws. And oh by the way, live free.
