The first DRY CAT FOOD with the tainted wheat gluten has been recalled:
It's Hill's Prescription Diet M/D Dry Cat Food.
From the CNN report:
Hill's Pet Nutrition recalled its Prescription Diet m/d Feline dry cat food. The food included wheat gluten from the same supplier that Menu Foods used. The recall didn't involve any other Prescription Diet or Science Diet products
[Update]: Purina is voluntarily recalling all sizes and varieties of its
ALPO(R) Prime Cuts in Gravy wet dog food with specific date codes.
One of the Cornell vets interviewed on CNN, Dr. Bruce Akey, finally voiced what we've been saying here all along:
"If you're really, really concerned, then feed your pet a home made diet for a few days or a few weeks and give this thing a chance to run its course."
Ya think?

Before we get to the links, here are two questions:
- What other parts of the food supply has this toxin gotten into?
- Why are we, a major wheat exporter, importing wheat gluten from China?

[Update] From TheBigKahuna's comment below: "I'd strongly recommend pet owners who think their pets may have been exposed to the tainted food have their pets tested. If I recall correctly, I think the cost for Socks was about $15."
Christie Keith from PetConnection has posted a report from the FDA melamine news conference here
Important!! If your pet is sick, be sure to TELL your vet about the ingredients suspected in the poisoning (Melamine and Aminopterin). The head vet at Cornell mentioned, during his press conference, that there are TREATMENTS for the poisons, as long as the treating vet knows about it.
Menu Foods says they will reimburse expenses for pet owners who can verify their pets were impacted by the recalled food.

And I strongly encourage all pet owners to look at natural prepackaged alternatives as reported in this thread below and in diary (both in the body of the diary and in the comment threads) and, as with the earlier diary:
If you have safe pet food alternatives you'd like to recommend, please post it on this thread!
