Today March 5th I was watching the congressional hearings on " Walter Reed" treatment of veterans over Washington Post live feed were one of the congressman asks the panel of soldiers if they think a new organization needs to be resurrected to look for the interest of the soldiers.
This is a cop out and seems to be the answer to all government problems "create an oversight panel to investigate the problem". Correct me if I am wrong but aren't the congressmen hired by the people to protect the interest of the people. Why do we need yet another oversight to oversee people who are hired by us to do the right job?
I suggest congress look at its own shortcomings to prevent these things from happening. This is if they really-really care as they pretend they do.
For example I suggest they check the budget for veterans affairs before they go to war by projecting what it might cost to support the people they send into harms way to make sure that the budget is commensurate with the problem at hand. Then be realistic. Most of these courageous men and woman that come back injured will need support for the rest of their lives. Have you accounted for that when you gave the president the authorization to go to war? Do you really understand the price of war? I bet you we will all be dumb-founded by the answers to these questions. War sucks for everyone and the resonance of war lingers for many generations.
