Daniel Flynn, author of "Why the Left Hates America," will be speaking at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, where I teach, next Monday. I'm going to attend--but I'd like your help.
There's plenty I want to say to Flynn (expressing my outrage not least among them, though I will try to tamp down my anger), but I'm not willing to do more than read reviews of his books. I did read David Horowitz's latest book--and that's enough right-wing blather for any one year (I'm still trying to recover from that experience).
Flynn does claim that "the left" is not the "liberals" like Hillary Clinton and most of the Democrats in Congress. Well, I'm far leftier than they (hey--you liked Stephen Colbert's "truthiness"...), so I have to figure I'm one of those that Flynn believes hates America.
I've got news for him: I don't hate America, and don't know anyone who does. What we hate is oppression, small-mindedness... oh, lots of things evinced by the people in power in our beautiful country. It's not America we hate (in fact we love it and are trying to protect its best traditions), but the people who are warping America into something we can hardly recognize.
But you know all that.
What I would like from fellow Kossacks is any information you have about Flynn and his books, anything that would be useful to me Monday night. If you have read any of his writings, I would be particularly interested in your opinions. It's not likely that there will be a big crowd, so I might get a lot of time in....
