I took a look to see if CBS and/or Katie Couric had responded to the blogstorm ( Katie Couric repeats the madrassa smear against Obama ) over her Notebook entry about Barak Obama last week. I was curious if massive complaints from the blog-o-sphere had any influence on Couric or CBS?
It turns out, yes, we did have an impact. Couric has posted a "corrected" notebook entry.
Join me over the fold, to see just how lame the "corrected" notebook entry is.
Here is the new Obama Notebook entry. But don't worry if you don't want to watch this despicable video again, it's been taken down and replaced with a "corrected" text entry.
Katie Couric's Notebook: Obama's Background
Posted by Greg Kandra
CORRECTED NOTEBOOK: Changes in bold
Is America ready to elect a President whose connections with Islam were the subject of rumor and innuendo?
The first thing to note is the author of the "corrected" notebook. It is not Katie Couric! Apparently the job of cleaning up Katie's video bombs are left to her editor. She probably much too busy to personally apologize for smearing a U.S. Senator. And since they were nice enough to bold their "corrected" text, I'll maintain the emphasis.
The first correction, goes from this:
Hi, everyone. Is America ready to elect a president who grew up praying in a mosque?
to this:
Is America ready to elect a President whose connections with Islam were the subject of rumor and innuendo?
I'm going to repeat what Geekesque said in the orginal diary, verbatim: "GROAN". Give me a freeking break Katie. What, a person can't become President if he/she has been the subject of baseless and completely fabricated rumors?
The next correction comes here:
That background sparked rumors that he had studied in a radical madrassa, or Quranic school -- rumors his campaign denied, declaring that Obama is now a practicing Christian.
That is changed to:
That background sparked rumors that he had studied in a radical madrasa, or Koranic school – rumors later disproved. Obama is now a practicing Christian.
I'll give Mr. Kandra credit for that one. It almost looks like a real "correction".
There are a couple of other minor corrections about sources, I'll leave you to go check out the "corrected" notebook entry...
But what doesn't get changed is the final bullshit statement at the end of the post:
It's too soon to know what America will decide about Barack Obama or his background.
But it's not too soon to wonder if America will see that background as an asset...or a liability.
Wait, wait, let me get this straight. You've had to admit this post was based on completely fabricated information, and Couric still has the ovaries to wonder publicly about Obama's background?
Katie and Mr. Kandra, you didn't need to issue a "corrected" notebook for this bullshit. You need to issue an apology to Senator Obama for perpetuating this Right Wing Noise Machine smear!
