Hey all!
CSK is up in Washington, DC, attending the YKOS fundraiser with the DC Kossacks! There was a transportation mix up and he was stuck at the airport for a bit, but I believe he is there now! Let the fun begin!
Since CSK is on the road, I'm doing the DIDS tonight.
For the unitiated, DIDS stands for "Damn, I Did Something." We get together here every Tuesday to celebrate our deeds, great and small.
Let the DIDS begin!
I'm really not sure what to DIDS this evening. My brain is racing with multiple topics, and everything seems inconsequential in light of yesterday's events at Virginia Tech. I'm sitting here at my laptop while the Pods eat dinner, feeling like my students must when I say, "Write a personal essay. Choose your own topic" and walk away, leaving them staring at the blank pages of their journals.
When my students find themselves in the "no topic" predicament, my answer is predictable: "Well, do some brainstorming! Write down a list of possible topics then pick one that you like!" So, tonight I'll follow my own advice and do some DIDS brainstorming. What have I done that might be worthy of reporting?
--Tonight I won a battle royale over homework with our oldest pod.
--I played outside with the I-Pod.
--I was efficient at work today and crossed several important tasks off my to do list.
--I received a lovely, lovely 'See you when I get back' note from CSK (OK...so I didn't really DO that one...but it was a highlight of the day)
--I organized a dinner club gathering at our house for Saturday evening--pretty big deal since I'm shy and hate to be in charge of social stuff.
--Yesterday I had the foresight to cook a BIG pasta dish that provided easy, no-heat leftovers for today's dinner--very helpful since I was engaged in homework battle from 5:30-6:30
As I read over my list, my mind drifts away from the here & now and turns to things I'd like to DO: finish a few more chapters of my book-in-progress, go on a long hike in the woods before North Carolina summer hits, get out to a museum sometime soon, clean out every single storage space in the house, engage in some on-the-street political action, enjoy years and years of joy with CSK and the pods.
Well, one thing is for sure: I'm grateful that I was able to DIDS today and that I have time and opportunity to DO tomorrow.
Ok...got to wrap this up and prepare for the bedtime hour.
Please join in with your DIDS, your TO DOs, and somethings for which you are grateful.
