From the Springfield News Leader
Glenn Miller Jr., whose self-described "pro-white" newsletter has sparked anger and concern in southwest Missouri, will not run as a Democrat for the 7th Congressional District after all.
The Missouri Democratic Party has refused his $100 filing fee, which disqualifies him as a candidate for the party, a spokeswoman for the Secretary of State?s Office said today.
Miller said by phone that he would file Friday as a Republican instead.
"Personally, I don't see any difference between the parties, but I've got to run as something," the Aurora resident said.
My commentary is under the fold
I won't claim this as any sort of success for myself, I think that the exposure of Mr. Miller was due to happen eventually. We don't if the exposure of Glenn Miller on this blog provided enough momentum to get his fee rejected. For one thing, the SNL also reported Mr. Miller's filing. But, i'll stay humble, because that's the right thing to do.
I salute the Missouri Democratic Party for doing the right thing and refusing his filing fee. I guess that was the quick and easy way to settle this matter.
Here's the comment from a MDP spokesman:
"The Democratic Party is certainly a big-tent party, but that does not include white supremacists," [Jack] Cardetti said.
"It's our feeling that he has every right to run, but we will do everything we can to keep him off the Democratic Party ticket."
The article linked also says that the party can refuse to take a filing fee. Since the candidate pays the fee to the party and then takes the receipt to the state, if the money is returned or refused, then the candidate is no longer a candidate.
Now, while it's pretty nice to know that a loon won't be running as a Democrat. There's another good thing.
That thing is a candidate in Missouri's 7th district. The deadline is on the 28th. All you need is a receipt from the party, a voter ID card* and a valid form of ID
*- Voter ID card does not mean "photo ID", so don't freak out.
Well, good news is always good, especially for today in Missouri, where is was raining and cold.
