They dare to give speeches and lay wreaths today, when they themselves did not love this country enough to serve her when asked.

Today we honor those men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Today we honor Americans who no matter their personal views went to serve in wars that were brutal, and who did their duty under the worst of circumstances. Today we honor human beings who sacrificed their hearts, their souls, their families, and their lives for what they believed in or were told were noble causes. And it is right that they should be honored for their service not only to this country, but for the personal sacrifices they made which were more than most would make.
Today, however, we do not honor chickenhawks. We do not honor men who used their wealth to avoid service. Today, we do not honor men who used their station in life to avoid service, thus allowing others to die in their place. Today, we do not honor sons of Senators, Ex-Presidents, and Presidents who used their positions to get cushy stateside assignments in the National Guard, thus going AWOL while others died in their place.
I just watched Dick Cheney lay a wreath at the tomb of the unknown solider, and my skin crawled. I also felt a tear come to eye thinking of all the men and women over the years who had to muster all the courage they could find to face leaving their homes, their families, and the comfort of their own lives to be thrust into a world that many of us out here cannot even imagine...And then I looked at that smug, arrogant, selfish, opportunistic, self-serving bastard thinking he had the right to lay a wreath at the tomb of those who gave the ultimate selfless sacrifice for their country, and the anger came.
I am outraged that these people are being given such an honor...These liars... These murderers... These TORTURERS. They have slapped the face of every serviceman and woman with their inhumane and un-American tactics. Those who fought for freedom in wars before did not fight for torture. They did not fight to see elections stolen. They did not fight for the Patriot Act.
They fought to preserve the principles of a Constitution that adheres to the rule of law and respects the rights of others, even those who are designated as enemies. That is done to preserve the safety of our own citizens and our troops fighting overseas. Therefore, the honor of laying a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier or any soldier should not go to a man who used deferment after deferment to get out of serving because he was arrogant enough to think that he was too good to serve his own country. That honor should be reserved for those who actually know what it is like to live on the edge of danger and fear. It should be reserved for those who know the sacrifices of the soul involved in the hell they call war.
However, even today, it is not a solemn event for these chickenhawks. Oh no, it is simply just one more day they can exploit to try to sell their war of lies in Iraq and their PNAC agenda on the blood of the troops they sent to Iraq based on their lies. Even today, on a day set aside to remember those veterans of wars who gave all they had for this country, the chickenwhawks who will gladly kill but never serve, use it only as damage control for a war that has killed over two thousand of our children for nothing more than their own profit.
They are all despicable SOBs, and no matter how many wreaths they lay, it will never, ever wash the innocent blood off of their hands. They are a disgrace to this country, and they are a disgrace to the memory of all of those who served and died, and those who still live with the pain of what they endured every day.
So today, I salute all veterans who gave of their hearts, their souls, their lives, and in many cases their own principles to fight in wars for this country. My father was one of them, and I had others who went to fight in every war from WW2 to Vietnam. And whether you agree or disagree with any war, those who go regardless of their personal beliefs because it is the oath they made deserve our support, and they have it. However, I do not today celebrate those spineless, lazy, opportunistic, whoring chickenhawks who wouldn't know sacrifice if it came up and bit them on the ass.
So go ahead, Bush, Cheney, and the rest of the cabal. Use this day once again to pimp for this war on the blood of good decent Americans who asked for nothing more than to be treated properly and with dignity upon completion of their service to this country. Stand there in your Armani suits with your silk ties surrounded by security and your false expressions of caring as you lay wreaths while taking away benefits and continue to kill innocent people. It is because of men like you that we have need for a Veterans Day at all. Men like you who wage war, but are too gutless to fight in them. Men like you who think our children are nothing more than vessels for your agenda of greed. Stand there, and feel the contempt of Americans who know the price of war, and are onto your lies.
