I have heard this week that the Feds couldn't get supplies in for those 72 hours because they weren't in the area.
Okay I kind of buy that.
But a buddy of mine is in Boston and said that we could have driven down with a truck on Tuesday night and would have beat the feds in. I thought he was being funny until I started checking driving distances to New Orleans...
Take in mind, this is going the posted speed limit and taking tolls and traffic into time. New Orleans was accessible.
We know the Crescent City highway was open of I-10 and people were able to get downtown, or close enough to it. How else was Hary Connick Jr. and other reporters able to reach the misery and death?
How could those trucks not get there for 3 DAYS? Ridiculous. You can get from Boston to New Orleans by car in 24 hours. From Los Angeles to New Orleans in 28 hours non-stop.
They should have been there the latest on Thursday of they were coming from BOSTON. It took 3 days to load these trucks up?
How about other cities
Detroit 16 hours
Chicago 14 hours
St Louis, 10 hours
Nashville, 8 hours
Little Rock, 8 hours
Louisville, 11 hours
Houston, 6 hours
Miami, 12 hours
Washington, DC 16 hours!
This is prepostorous. I could have sent my laptop out for service by DHL express, and got it returned before they had water and help in New Orleans. Maybe FEDEX should be a part of the help (And why weren't their cargo planes used to bring in water and food? Sure big enough).
New Orleans is easy to get to and within a reasonable days drive of almost anywhere in the United States.
It took 4 days to get supplies there, unacceptable, and I don't want to hear about everythign was out of the area. People were dying and I could have driven across the USA in the time people had between glasses of water.
I will not accept that the supplies weren't in the area. They should have been moving on Tuesday from around the country to the disaster area, and in the meantime temporary air drops should have been made.
Does anyone know how long it takes for Walmart to load a truck and get it on the road?
Only eight hours from arkansas. Isn't Walmart headquarters there? They sure of hell could have had supplies in.
There was roads open, a clear desitination of need, and the ability to deliver the food and water.
What was lacking was the will.
Someone send FEMA Mapquest. Maybe they can find out where New Orleans is.
