Murray Waas is reporting on HuffPo that he has uncovered a memo circulating inside the World Bank that Wolfie's gal pal has gotten all kinds of preferential treatment.
Wolfie evidently disclosed his romantic (ugh!) involvement with Ms. Shaha Riza, who was a senior bank communications officer, right after his nomination as head of the World Bank. Their regulations state that bank employees cannot supervise spouses or romantic partners, but Wolfie found a way around that. (Don't they always?)
Although he tried to "rearrange" the rules so that she could continue working at the bank, he failed in that attempt. So, Ms. Riza was sent to work at the public diplomacy office at the State Department, but her salary was still paid by the World Bank.
Her salary at State more than doubled, despite State Dept. rules that she would have been eligible for only a $20,000. She got a $47,340 raise, and last year received another raise that brought her salary to $193,00. Not only does she earn more than Condie, she is the highest paid State Department official.
The memo circulating among the understandably disgruntled WB employees are pissed off at the preferential treatment she has received, and many of them are expressing their concern and outrage. They are asking that Senior Management and the Board to explain the apparent flouting of the rules under which they have to serve.
Reportedly, Wolfie and Riza had split up, but were recently spotted making cozy after a recent party at the home of the Japanese Ambassador.
No one is expecting much to happen because: (I know you will be as shocked as I am.) any investigation would be conducted by Republican Party activist and long-time Wolfie friend, Suzanne Rich Folsom. It seems she got the job after Wolfie disregarded nine other qualified candidates.
I am shocked, I tell you, shocked!!
