I am fuming after watching the first segment on Meet The Press. Tim Russert decided that Orrin Hatch's "correction" was not worth putting on the air. Here it is:
Tim Russert, NBC Washington Bureau Chief
4001 Nebraska Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20016
Dear Tim:
I would appreciate your help in correcting a mistake I made on your show last Sunday, April 1, 2007.
My comments about Carol Lam's record as a U.S. Attorney were accurate, but I misspoke when making the point of discussing politically connected U.S. Attorneys. I accidentally used her name, instead of her predecessor, Alan Bersin, who was appointed by President Bill Clinton.
I sincerely regret making this error, ans I wanted to make sure that you and your viewers had the correct information.
Sincerely,
Orrin G. Hatch
United States Senator
Utter bullshit.
Senator Hatch didn't misspeak, he lied his ass off. As a former member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, he well knows that Carol Lam was a Republican appointee. After all, he was the committee chair when she was confirmed. He KNEW that she was not a member of the Clinton inner circle. He went on Meet the Press last week to attack Carol Lam because she had the nerve to challenge the president, and he didn't care if he had to lie to do it. He was acting as a loyal GOP hitman, out to whack a made woman who didn't follow orders.
But Russert simply noted that Orrin Hatch wrote a "correction" letter and did not follow up on the content of said letter. Russert is not a journalist because he is clearly not interested in the truth.
BTW, Russert's round table didn't discuss the resignation of Monica Goodling either. It was an extremely weak debate about the firings.
