What to say? You have to ask?
There have been a lot of good basic scripts for what to say posted among the many rants here, but I found this one to be the most concise and flexible:
Three steps to standing up and being counted
1. Step the first: call your congresscritters at 202 224 3121. If you don't know who your congresscritters are, check here.
2. When you reach them, tell them the following:
*You share the disappointment of many Democrats at the news that The President will get his funding bill without a withdrawal deadline.
*This compromise isn't a compromise at all; it's a blank check that will give the President everything he needs to foist this war on the next President.
*70% of the American public want this war over, and want our troops out. This is why they voted for the Democrats in the first place.
*You not only want them to vote against any funding bill that doesn't have a deadline, but you want them to tell their comrades how you feel about this.
3. When this is done, tell four (4) or more of your friends to do the same thing. Email them, blog about it, call them on the phone, do whatever you have to do.
After calling, follow up with an e-mail. Though e-mail has less of an effect than a phone call will, it will reinforce our opposition to writing Bush a blank check.
Feel free to check in here and report your Senators' and Congressperson's responses.
In my case, Schumer's and Clinton's phone lines are still hopelessly busy, and there seems to be nobody home at Nita Lowey's office, though it is supposed to open at 9AM. I left a message, and will call back in a half hour.
What about you?
