Disclaimer: This is a serious inquiry. I am not plugging a product and I have never heard of this product or this company before today.
I listened to the Ed Schultz Show today during lunch and heard about an interesting product that was developed in the Midwest and is really gaining steam.
Ed interviewed Dave Cermak of CMH Industries, about a fuel additive known as CA-40g. You can listen to the interview here.
So what is this new product and what does it claim to do?
The product, CA-40g was accidently happened on by an engineer 11 years ago while he was working on a way to reduce emissions in airplanes. During his work, he apparently discovered a way to suspend the calcium atoms that burn in fuel. You can check the link but don't ask me to elaborate, chemistry was never one of my strong subjects.
According to Mr. Cermak, calcium is what burns rapidly and unevenly in piston engines. Once this process was discovered, the engineer was able to develop an additive that reduces fuel consumption by at least 10%. They also claim that this additive reduces some emissions in gasolines by up to 50%. According to their web page this product is made of environmentally friendly ingredients.
The recommended ratio of this product is one ounce to 15-20 gallons of fuel and they claim that it works with all fuels including bio, diesel, gasoline and E-85. Mr. Cermak contended in his interview that the 10% reduction is actually a conservative estimate, most users get more than that and he calculated that consumers can save up to four to eight dollars per tank of gas with use of this product.
The website provides test results, product information and spectrum analysis for the technically inclined.
I Googled this product and several variations to find out if there was any other information (adverse or otherwise) on this product but could not find anything. I certainly subscribe to caveat emptor and approach everything with a jaundiced eye.
I wondered if any other Kossacks had heard of this product or had more information. If it works and it is true, then it certainly is worth promoting. Of course Ed pointed out the possibility of the large oil companies swooping down to buy this up but Mr. Cermak said that the engineer still owns this product (CMH is the sales agent) and that the owner is not motivated by money. Of course, that is a great principle and my hope is that if that is true, he sticks to his guns because the oil companies are rolling in it and certainly can throw it around in preservation of their own self-interest.
I have long contended, and told my kids, that the new industrial revolution will be green industries. It will be driven out of necessity and because of the potential market out there. I hope this product is real and I hope it takes off. I winced when I heard the term "fuel additive" because there are a lot of them out there and many of them don't really do anything. This was sentiment that Mr. Cermak expressed when he told Ed about his first encounter with the product.
So the question is, if it's for real, will it take off across the nation or will big oil and other industries quash it? (Or is my tinfoil hat too tight?)
