Ok, it's obvious that all of us are mighty pissed about what's gone down the last couple of days, and with good reason. However, I humbly submit that we should have seen this coming. With the razor-thin majority that we have in the Senate, we were never going to be able to peel off enough pretend-to-be-concerned-about-the-war Republicans and Blue Dog Democrats to override a filibuster, much less a veto. Add in the Dems that think ending the war would be a good thing, but aren't willing to risk their seat to do so, and it becomes obvious that the Boy King was eventually going to get his money.
So what are we to do? We can talk about primary challenges galore to get more Dems in there that are truly dedicated to ending the war at all costs, or peeling off a few more House and Senate seats in '08, but there is only one course of action that presents a realistic chance of ending the war: get a Dem in the White House that is dedicated to doing so. Now I'm not going to name names because I don't want to start a pie fight, but here's what I'm going to do: pay attention to the Democratic debates, try to determine which of the top 4-5 candidates is most serious about ending this thing as soon as possible, and then throw my support that way. Because if we get a Rudy, McCain, or hawkish Dem in '08 get ready for 4 more years of non-binding resolutions.
