The strategy of appointing a committee to "look into" what everyone knows was a bald-faced lie shows what low regard Rove and the boys have for the American people. They see us as a bunch of Zoloft-popping zombies who'll swallow any version of reality that allows us to avoid confronting the truth. They figure with 200 million dollars and control of the media you can make any lie stick (look how easy it was to destroy Dean). It's scary what low regard they hold us in.
Are we really this stupid? Do we still possess the will to be a democracy, or are we so exhausted from overwork and over-entertainment and all our other over-consumptions that we actually yearn for fascism? Maybe Rove is right and all we want is a Daddy who'll tell us whatever fairy tale it takes to keep us asleep.
In any case, it's what the Republicans are betting on. Does America have the oomph to prove them wrong?
