Sorry for all the caps but this is urgent. You may know Eric Massa from his diaries here, you may know him from the movie "Taking The Hill", you may know him because you live in Western New York. But however you know him, you know he's a true netsroots candidate: independent, interested in people (not money) power), and committed to getting our troops home ASAP.
He is running again against Republican Randy Kuhl in NY-29 after losing narrowly (by 2 points) in 2006. And what with Kuhl's many missteps so far (here's a somewhat comprehensive list), it looks like one of 2008's best pick-up opportunities.
But there's a big problem!
ERIC MASSA NEEDS YOUR HELP.
It looks like Massa's independent grassroots ways have earned him the wrath of monied, entrenched interests: will be facing a self-funded millionaire in the primary, one who may have the backing of the DCCC and powerful local Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (D-NY). A costly primary would be a killer for Massa's finances -- it would take place in mid-September, less than two months before the election.
If he can raise 300K by June 30, that will likely sway the DCCC into staying neutral and may convince the challenger to drop out. Please help out if you can by clicking here.
The local blogs have done a terrific job of covering these developments: see here, here, here, and here, for example.
But they can't do it alone. We need your help.
I do not work for the Massa campaign and spent equal time helping another candidate (Dan Maffei, NY-25, also terrific) last time around. But as someone who cares about grassroots democracy, I had to send out this cry for help.
