I made the paper. I'm one of the folks profiled in the Ventura County Star. The story also profiles individuals who are supporting Kerry, Edwards, and Clark. FYI, that's me in the arty-farty picture showing me, Howard Dean, and my laptop. The photographer and I had a lot of fun shooting those photos.
I just got back from Flagstaff, Arizona, knocking on doors to try and get the vote out for Dean. As of Saturday, there were still a lot of people who were undecided - a testament both to the strength of our slate of candidates and to the degree of thought that members of our party are giving to whom they want to carry the mantle against Bush. Many of the people who were supporting other candidates greeted me warmly, and thanked me for the work I was doing, even if I was doing it on behalf of a candidate they were not supporting. Even though we're still deciding on our guy, we're all on the same team.
I hope that the race remains a party of four for as long as possible. If it wasn't already glaringly obvious, we as a party have the national podium, and the longer that we go without a "presumptive nominee," the longer we will have control of the debate. The big news last night was the primaries - and when they weren't talking about that, they were talking about how Bush's budget proposal slashes spending on social programs and education. The longer we go with four targets instead of one, the better.
Note to John Kerry, Wesley Clark, and Terry Mac: you've got the Bushies in a defensive crouch vis a vis Bush's service record. In case you didn't already know this, he seems to be the only major presidential candidate, winner or loser, in the past half-century not to release his service records to the public. He's hiding something. You know it, and he knows you know it. Gore gave him a pass on it and lost. Gentlemen, the blood is in the water on this issue, and we need to use it against him. The public isn't going to be so patient with Bush's military adventures when they are forced to confront the fact that his own service record is a sham.
