Which state bears the brunt of the supreme sacrifice in Iraq? When it comes to shear numbers California has the most, then Texas, then you'll find Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio and Florida, then so on as you'll see in the first chart. It's no surprise that these are also the most populated states.

Vermont, the Dakotas, Nebraska, Wyoming come to mind immediately. Louisiana and Arkansas are the only deep south states in the top ten.
