In today's Wall Street Journal, Nouri al-Maliki wrote an opinion piece about the progress in Iraq. The entire piece can be viewed here.
First, how does Maliki have time to write journal entries for the American public? It makes me wonder whether someone from the Bush administration wrote this piece and then signed his name at the end.
Second, should Maliki be comparing present day Iraq to the American Civil War? During the Civil War, we didn't have another country setting all the rules and sending us weapons to fight with.
Third, Maliki tells us that there are many positive changes happening in Iraq. He writes:
"War being what it is, the images of Iraq that come America's way are of car bombs and daily explosions. Missing from the coverage are the great, subtle changes our country is undergoing, the birth of new national ideas and values which will in the end impose themselves despite the death and destruction that the terrorists have been hell-bent on inflicting on us."
So Maliki, what are the great, subtle changes, the new ideas, and the values that will endure in this time of terror and chaos? I keep hearing people complain about how the progess and positive achievements in Iraq are being ignored by the media, but none of these nay-sayers have pointed out what good news is that's being ignored? What achievements are being made? What progress can we be proud of? Maliki didn't mention a single achievement, but he complained about how the positive achievements are being ignored by the media. If there is progess, then tell us about it!
