That’s right. It doesn’t.
And now his apology is enough. Why? Because everything else he’s saying is right.
Okay, I know it does matter, but the who would have opened a dairy called "Why The Edwards Iraq Vote Does Matter But Hey You Know Here's My Reasoning For Why It Really Doesn't So Listen"?
I know he voted for a war that he should have seen as a mistake from the get-go. But come on - does anyone honestly see John Edwards heading us into another war like this one?
Of course not. He made a mistake. A horrible mistake. If your concern is a lack of judgment on behalf of Edwards, then I really don’t see the argument – he’s very, very clearly not going to send us into a war like Iraq, and of the three main candidates, is the least likely to send us into an unnecessary war in the future. It’s called learning from your mistakes - something we as a species have a problem with. Thankfully, John Edwards has grown up in the last five years. But the others?
Obama was right from the get-go on the Iraq war, but he’s also preaching some of the most America-guides-the-world-and-has-a-big-military rhetoric of any of the major Dem candidates. While I appreciate that he was right on Iraq, I really don’t agree with what he’s saying now. And you know what? Now is what matters, because we have a country that is slowly sneaking its way down the tubes and without a strong progressive voice leading us, it’s not going to get better.
And Hillary? Hillary won’t even apologize for the vote. How, as a voter, am I supposed to come off of that feeling reassured that she wouldn’t make the same mistake twice? She’s said if she knew then what she knows now she wouldn’t have done it. Well, I can say that about every single one of my ex-girlfriends, but does that mean I’m not going to get into another relationship with someone who I’m not compatible with?
Excluding Edwards because he used to think differently and because he’s matured in the last five years seems like the exact opposite of what we should be doing – judging our candidates for what they stand for today. Did any of you believe the exact same things you believed five years ago? Hell, I didn't even believe the same things I believed last year. It's called growing up - and I want a candidate who won't stop doing it, even in their fifties.
I’d much rather have a President who can make a mistake and learn from it than someone who was on the winning side originally but isn’t saying what I want to hear now. I’d much rather have a President who can make a mistake and learn from it than someone who can make a mistake and learn nothing.
I’d much rather have John Edwards because he’s right on everything now than anyone else because Edwards was wrong five years ago.
