Nobody's talking about Hillary's super-lamo campaign song? "You and I" by Celine Dion. Whoa! What were they thinking? So what's wrong with this song?
- It's Celine Dion.
- She's not an American.
- She's FRENCH-Canadian.
Nothing against the French or the Canadians, but they really handed the right-wing pundits a hot one. Has Team Hillary already forgotten how John Kerry was attacked for "looking French?"
You'd think that they'd play it safe and pick a song by an American. Remember how the Clintons explained years ago that they named their daughter Chelsea after the song "Chelsea Morning?" I love that song, but they credited Judy Collins for it, but it was Joni Mitchell who wrote it and made it a hit. But of course Judy is an American and Joni was from Canada.
But as you probably heard, the Celine Dion choice came from an on-line vote. So I'm wondering if maybe this was a Sanjaya-like situation. That is, that supporters of other candidates may have participated in order to ensure that Hillary got stuck with the lamest song ever. Because I think that's what she got.
Hillary needed a song that could connect with young people. Or something with soul, something punchy. It's kind of a cliche, but something with the pizzazz of Aretha Franklin's "Respect." Something you could dance to. Not easy listening music, OK? Not that I consider Celine Dion easy to listen to, but you know what I mean.
Hey, I feel a new Top 10 List coming. Let's call it "Top 10 Songs We Wish We Had Stuck Her With." Here we go...
- Macarena (remember how annoying that song was?)
- I Am Woman (Helen Reddy)
- Don't Mess With Bill (the Marvelettes)
- Baby's Got Back (Sir Mix-a-Lot)
- I'm Sorry (Brenda Lee)
- All Apologies (Nirvana)
- Oops!...I did it again (Britney Spears)
- It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp (from Hustle & Flow)
- Witchy Woman (Eagles)
- The Bitch is Back (Elton John)
OK, I know I'm going to get flak for that last one. Let me say that, one, I never use the B word because it's a cheap shot and my Mom taught me to respect women. And two, I've never used that word to describe Hillary. But many have, and what I'm saying is instead of running away from it, maybe she should embrace it. I'm thinking of a slogan like "it takes a tough bitch to get the job done." I know, it will never happen. I'm just saying.
