For several months now, since the global rock out "Live Earth" was created and announced, it's been covered here at T&P. The story from early February was that VP Al Gore was not going to attend any of the seven (eight if you include Antarctica) concerts on 07-07-07 because of prior commitments. Well, something must have changed his mind.
From the Associated Press:
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - He may not be as big of a draw as The Police or Kanye West, but former vice president and anti-global warming crusader Al Gore will be attending the July 7 Live Earth concert at Giants Stadium.
While I don't agree that Kanye West is a bigger draw, this could be a significant development. There's more.
The article goes on:
Gore is working with Kevin Wall, who produced the Live 8 concerts in 2005 designed to combat poverty, to stage a series of concerts around the world in order to draw attention to global warming.
Wall told The Star-Ledger of Newark that he would be attending the London show while Gore would be rocking out in New Jersey.
There's some political irony that Wall is going to be in London while Roger Waters is going to be in NJ, but that's besides the point. I'm already in countdown mode for a great rock concert, and will be there (thanks to public transportation the whole way) liveblogging the event, but now I'm wondering if there may some major political news to report as well.
Do you think?
