I often find what goes on in my backyard is more interesting that the scant offerings on TV. Oh, I watch TV, but as I get older I find I need some contemplative time in order to function properly in daily life. I think most people have a "nothingness" activity that allows them to decompress and release mental toxins. I try to get in my allotment of exercise and enjoy it but it is more likely to help me process anger or stress.
There is no sleeping in in this household. The pootie overlords get a "wet food" treat in the morning and if we are not up at a decent time, they will join forces with the dog and run across us on the bed. The calico likes to slowly dig her claws in Mr.Undercovercalico's chin until he stirs.
However, not everybody is an early riser. Shhh, you have to be quiet, the day lilies are still sleeping. I guess the roses have to talk among themselves until they wake up.
The day lily is a a fairly common flower that comes in many colors, can adapt to many different soil types, and is generally hardy. In our area, this color predominates. It actually belongs to the plant clan, not the lily clan. I know next to nothing about gardening and the spouse takes care of the vegetables so anything that can survive despite me is welcome.
Ah, time to wake up. Now the roses have company.
Meanwhile, the pootie overlords go outside for a supervised jaunt. We aren't keen about letting them out much because we live in the country and we have seen the occasional day time coyote. Besides, we like the birds.
Sophie, the calico, is the queen of the trio.
Once the cats are in, the birds can come back and hang out in safety.
Before I go to sleep at night I like to sit outside in the darkness and listen to the frogs and bugs harmonize. Since I am a radical secularist, this substitutes as my bedtime prayer.
