I just received an email from a friend who recently met with Congressman Rush Holt (D-NJ). It's a glimpse into the mindset of Congressional Democrats, and it's one that must change if there is going to be a move to impeach.
We can sit at our computers and write diaries on impeachment and add scintillating comments until our fingers are bloody stumps, but we haven't accomplished squat until we make a dent in the thick-skulled Democrats who condescendingly look down on us, the masses out here in American-Idol land who don't know a stinking god-damn thing.
Excerpts from my friend's email:
Good Morning you bunch of uneducated, ignorant, dumbass Americans!
I know you are thinking what a strange way to greet my wonderful fellow progressives...right? Let me tell you of my adventures yesterday and you will understand.
The members of the Central Impeach group had asked me to join them in their presentation to Rush Holt, requesting his support of HR 333 for the impeachment of Vice President Cheney.
...Even though Holt agreed this administration did numerous high crimes and misdemeanors, he still stood fast on his statement, "The support for impeachment is not there; the American public is uneducated and do not understand what crimes have been committed." ( My response to his statement, "Please give us more credit than that.")
Holt kept repeating we will never see impeachment because the Bush gang have a way of covering up their dirty deeds. One of us responded, "On most of the items in the resolution, they have already admitted to committing these crimes."
Every time we countered his statements with facts he went back to, "The support for impeachment is not there; the American public is uneducated and do not understand what crimes have been committed."
We tried on numerous occasions to make him realize he has a duty to impeach and to negate the precedent set by this administration to stop the hemorrhage of our constitutional rights and liberties.
He said Conyers and Waxman will never go for impeachment and Pelosi wasn't in favor of wasting time on something they couldn't win. Besides there is no support for impeachment; the grassroots need to get out there and educate the public so there is support.
We handed him copies of the petitions her group had collected and said there is support out there but the news media just isn't covering it.
Upon leaving the meeting, the general consensus among the five ladies who attended was that the only one in that room who was uneducated was Rush Holt.
Please feel free to contact Rush Holts office to let him know you are one of the educated.
IN FACT I ENCOURAGE YOU TO DO SO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After reading my friend's email to me, I sent one to Congressman Holt:
Dear Congressman Holt,
A friend of mine recently met with you and you said you did not support impeachment due to lack of public support. I'm writing this email to let you know that I most certainly support impeachment, and feel it would be successful if it began with Vice President Cheney. Those of us outside the beltway aren't as uneducated as you seem to think.
Please reconsider. Not for my sake, but for the country's. I am not interested in revenge or punishment. I simply believe that it would be a disastrous precedent for Bush/Cheney to leave office without even an attempt by Congress to hold them accountable. It makes it easier for the next Republican adminstration to go even farther.
I fear for the future of my country and the freedoms I hold dear. Don't you? And shouldn't that love trump political considerations?
There was little support for the Nixon impeachment when the process began, but it slowly built. Circumstances are different, I know, but I believe it could happen again. At any rate, the Democrats must try. It's for our children and our grandchildren's future. What could be more important than that? (My name)
Do you think that Congressman Holt would change his mind if he got a zillion emails from the likes of you-all?
