I am usually reticent to repeat a press release for mass consumption, but I consider this one to be very newsworthy. A company called Range Fuels has gotten approval to open an ethanol production plant where the ethanol is produced from cellulose rather than sugar.
I am usually reticent to repeat a press release for mass consumption, but I consider this one to be very newsworthy. A company called Range Fuels has gotten approval to open an ethanol production plant where the ethanol is produced from cellulose rather than sugar.
Range Fuels has received approval to build what it calls "the first commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol plant in the United States."
Ethanol produced from cellulose is supposed to contain significantly more energy than ethanol from sugar. This means that gasoline that contains this form of ethanol will provide better mileage.
As a bonus, cellulose exists in all forms of plant life, not just sugar crops. This plant is expected to produce 100 million gallons of ethanol a year from wood waste.
