Dear Senator Feingold
I wondered if you had had the time to actually read over what you had said in your diary today? I find it remarkably ironic that you are seeking to overturn what you yourself call a "failed strategy" in Iraq by advocating a Democratic policy that is itself a failed strategy.
Does the President's threat of a veto over at least 18 pieces of legislation and the subsequent inability to defeat a veto tell you something? It's time to heed your own words Senator and change course, because victory on this present one will never happen. As this war spirals more and more into oblivion, so does your ability to end it.
Don't let a war with Iran become an innevitable conclusion. Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.
How many more violations does the Administration need to make before impeachment is back on the table? You talk often about the voice of the people and how the President is simply ignoring it. I challenge you Senator Feingold to listen to that voice yourself. It is a voice of anguish, a voice of despair, and a voice of anger. It is the voice of millions of Americans who see only hopelessness.
What will it take Senator Feingold before something is done for the sanctity of our Constitution and to preserve our Democracy? Do we have to march in the streets? Is that where we are at, the point where our government and its representatives will only listen to us if we are clamouring at the gates, pitchforks in hand?
The people should not be afraid of their government, the government should be afraid of their people. Senator Feingold, if you have no faith in our Constitution and are unwilling to defend its principles against an Administration that holds only contempt for it and you, then thank you for your service, but now its time to move on and let somebody else take over.
