According to the Dean blog, "Governor Dean will deliver a major address at noon tomorrow, Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at Cooper Union in New York City."
I got an e-mail yesterday from the NYC Dean volunteer coordinator which indicated that the event was only recently scheduled, so apparently it was either kept under wraps or was decided upon only in the last few days.
The subject of the "major address" is thus far a mystery. What subject do folks here at dKos guess the Governor will be addressing? Or, put another way, what subjects are worth a "major address" by a frontrunning opposition candidate at this point?
My guess: Dean will speak about Iraq, presenting a four-point plan to 'win the peace.' The situation in Iraq is so dire that the U.S. policy there cannot wait until January 2005 to change. Republicans do not have an achievable plan, yet they like to claim that all the Democrats do is criticize. A smart Democrat can counter that by outlining a concrete vision for Iraq.
Among the four points could be a new approach to internationalizing the reconstruction, perhaps through NATO so it won't be the 'blue helmets' Republicans like to deride.
That's just a wild guess. But I do think now would be a good time for Democrats to show Americans a better way of dealing with Iraq. We bombed the place, so we have a responsibility to clean up our mess. We can't just pick up and leave ala Kucinich. Yet we need to face the fact that the present situation can't last forever.
