I have written e-mails via the hillaryclinton website, to Bill O'Reilly himself, and to Jet Blue. No response, yet, but here is the plea of one of the more moderate members of Daily Kos:
Dear Jet Blue...
(substantial portions of this letter are modified from petitions recently sent to Hillary Clinton and Bill O'Reilly)
Bill O'Reilly used to be the host of one of my favorite news shows. I have enjoyed the array of topics he addresses, and finds his humor very entertaining. I also was thrilled at the arrival of JetBlue in Chicago, and was deeply moved the airline would support a dynamic non-profit web community like Daily Kos. Unfortunately, until both your president and Mr. O'Reilly apologize for the slanderous remarks you have made, and actions you have taken, against Daily Kos, I am boycotting your airline, along with the O'Reilly program.
I continued...
While I find it regrettable that the Fox News Channel lacks the negotiating skills necessary for persuading the Democratic Presidential nominees to debate on its network, this has nothing to do with either DailyKos, or the Yearly Kos convention. DailyKos provides a unique, grassroots forum for folks - like me - to express their views without feeling the thumb of Corporate control. Clearly, as to Daily Kos - and the nature of blogging generally, both Mr. O'Reilly and the president of Jet Blue are relatively ignorant. To attack such a unique and dynamic community is to definitively submit to the corporate greed that controls the old-fashioned media-world. It is to use corporate power to hinder free speech. If conservative bloggers have failed to create their own dynamic community, maybe it is because they prefer corporate dominance in America. Blogging means freedom from corporate-controlled speech, in a way that television stations, such as Fox News Network, do not allow. By supporting DailyKos, I felt that JetBlue was endorsing free speech, in the spirit of the energetic & revolutionary business entity it has become. Bucking the expected and the norm, you know?
I closed with...
Please reconsider your slanderous endorsements of Mr. O'Reilly's statements, and gracefully apologize to a community you barely know. For now, I am deeply saddened that my appreciation for both JetBlue's airline and Mr. O'Reilly's work cannot coexist with my love of Daily Kos.
I signed the letters with my full name and home address. Please follow Kos' advice and write your own letters to support our wonderful community.
