I have been sending messages to the John Edwards Campaign about how to do away with the infamous 'expensive haircut' that Republicans are continuously tying around his neck like... uummm, a barber's apron.
However, despite hiring folks who supposedly know how to run grass/netroots campaigns -- and having some of the most polite, friendly folks answering the phones -- nobody is responding to the folks who come up with ideas to help.
So here is my idea in public, John.
Make the jump with me...
Start getting your haircuts publicly at local barber shops recommended by local Dem organizations in the places you visit. Stimulate conversation in barbershops and beauty parlors in the case of your wife.
But that is not all...
Make it a fundraising opportunity for local Dem organizations to raise money for your campaign and for local candidates to have "'Lunch and a Haircut' with John Edwards" and "Lunch and Beauty Shop" with Elizabeth". Everybody pitches in what they can and a drawing is held so that regular folks without pull in the local party organizations get to be a part of it too.
Then...
The next time some media clown brings up your "expensive haircut" grab 'em and take them with you to get their haircut along with you and "the real people". If they pass, then ask why they don't care to spend time with local people and find out what they think about things at the local barber shops like you and Elizabeth do?
Imagine this!
Wanna make YK07 be YOUR Convention? Come sit with US at lunch. Make everybody know that you are coming out from behind the 'packaging' and the 'consultants' and JOIN US ALL at YearlyKos 2007. Don't just present to us, or give a good speech... JOIN US! Listen... Spend time with us like we are important - because we are! Not just top bloggers, but certainly include them... ALL of US!
Become OUR CANDIDATE!
Now... the personal pitch... of course!
I'd like to join you in Launching 'Lunch and Haircut' at YearlyKos! My wife cuts my hair, but I'd sit down for a trim and a chat with you, sir!
My sweet wife just got her hair done to be ready for YK07, but 'Lunch and Beauty Shop' with Elizabeth would make her day!
Do you want to be a grassroots/netroots candidate? REALLY MEAN IT?
See you for 'Lunch and a Haircut' at the YearlyKos Barber Shop!

PS: I did this diary using a computer at my local car dealership waiting room... think about that. Isn't the internet soooo very powerful?
