I hadn't seen any posts here linking to this (doesn't mean there weren't any!), so I thought I'd post a link to something I think everyone needs to see.
Max Blumenthal, a regular contributor to HuffPo, has put together a terrific video he took at the Christians United for Israel "get-together" last week. It's chilling stuff, given that it really shows that (unless you suffer from the same madness) a large number of folks are ready to pursue an absolutely insane course of action--all in order to get to the Rapture.
Get ready for Hell on Earth, Kossacks! (More...)
Founded by San Antonio-based megachurch pastor John Hagee, CUFI has added the grassroots muscle of the Christian right to the already potent Israel lobby. Hagee and his minions have forged close ties with the Bush White House and members of Congress from Sen. Joseph Lieberman to Sen. John McCain.
You think Lieberman is a wingnut? Wait till you see him proudly urging on CUFI in their mission. As Blumenthal says in his accompanying write-up:
Among the rapture ready was Republican Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay. None of this seemed to matter to Lieberman, who delivered a long sermon hailing Hagee as nothing less than a modern-day Moses. Lieberman went on to describe Hagee's flock as "even greater than the multitude Moses commanded."
You need to read the rest of his post and watch the video. It's chilling. I don't frankly know which group is worse: the self-satisfied, arrogant, wealthy, neo-feudal, neo-con elitists who will drive this country into the ground and see thousands of our own sacrificed in the name of their own power, or the folks on this video who will gladly see the rest of the Earth destroyed for their own share of God's green acre in the after life. Perhaps there's not much to choose from.
