I had a letter published in today's Star Ledger. It is New Jersey's largest circulation newspaper. The letter was in response to one of their columnists who continues to repeat the "Obama not experienced enough" meme. Letter and link after the break:
E.D. Nixon, president of the Montgomery, Ala., NAACP in the mid-1950s, once explained why he turned to the young and inexperienced Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. to lead the bus boycott. It was im portant that King was new to the city and "had not been here long enough for the city fathers to put their hand on him." Columnist John Farmer should consider this before he again claims that Sen. Barack Obama lacks the experience to lead our country. The fact that Obama has spent less than three years in Washington should be badge of honor in today's political climate. It was people like Obama, Howard Dean and Al Gore who warned us that the Iraq would be a mistake. Democrats with years of inside-the-Beltway experience voted for this war. The architects of this disaster, Republicans Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld, had years of experience. These days Obama's experience as a community organizer and state senator is more important than years in our nation's capital, where the power structure will eventually "put its hand" on him. We need Obama's intelligence and commitment, rather than more experience, to change Washington.

Those of us who post to blogs should not forget that letters to the editor can influence the political dialogue. I have a pretty good record of getting letters published, including one in the New York Times.
