Guess what happened when University of California conducted a $1.8 million research program on three major e-voting systems at the behest of Sec. of State, Debra Bowen? They demonstrated MULTIPLE ways of compromising all three of the electronic voting machine systems certified for use in California.
These hacks enable hijacking machines and altering election results. If these were ATMs, you could use them to plunder a bank!
All Systems Flawed:
Sequoia Voting Systems: They were able to gain physical access to the system by removing a few screws. They also discovered several ways to overwrite the Sequoia system firmware.
Diebold Elections Systems: Testers were able to exploit vulnerabilities in the operating system and take security-related actions the server did not record in the audit logs.
Hart Intercivic: The team developed a device that caused Hart's system to authorize access codes without poll worker intervention.
